Immortality:
Vampires are immortal. They can live forever and they do not get sick or contract any diseases. However, there are ways to kill a vampire. By decapitating or incapacitating them long enough to burn the body. Stabbing them in the heart, even with a stake, doesn't work since they don't have beating hearts anyway. Removal of limbs and limited internal body parts will regenerate over time, faster if they feed. This process takes about a week for internal organs and a month or two for limbs. Organ removal such as the esophagus, stomach, or brain will most likely kill a vampire.
Thirst:
Vampires can prey on both humans and animals, and everything has its own distinct flavor. On average, a vampire can go up to two weeks without consuming any blood, but the thirst returns after 12 hours of the last meal and increases with time.
Food and Drink:
Vampires do not urinate or have any bowel movements. All human food or drink, anything that isn't blood really, must be vomited in order to purge their bodies of the unatural meal.
Venom:
Vampires have a venomous saliva that causes a sensation of being stabbed throughout your entire body. This feeling is very, very painful. It incapacitates humans, leaving them to pray for death as the vampire drains their blood. If a vampire does not completely drain a human, then the sensation will continue until it turns them into a vampire. It usually takes about a week for the transformation, and the infected human will receive vampiric attributes each day.
Self-Control:
It takes many, many years in order to gain perfect control over the thirst. On average, it takes about 90-150 years. Until then, even a small cut on a human will make the vampire lose all control and attack. Once a vampire smells blood, it is very hard to resist and once it tastes blood, it is nearly impossible for them to stop feeding. So many humans that are lined up to change into vampires die because the vampire cannot stop drinking their human blood. The vampire is a slave to thirst and instinct.
Daylight:
Daylight does not kill vampires. However, their eyes are extremely sensitive to the sun and they experience strong discomfort without wearing something like dark sunglasses.
Appearence:
Vampires have the pale skin of death, but are beautiful. Their eye colors vary as much as human's do, though vampire eyes tend to be brighter. They have elongated fangs that are fixed, meaning they do not retract or extend.
Super Powers:
Vampires don't have any magical abilities. They cannot read minds or talk to animals, nor can they fly or shapeshift. They are not psychic and cannot raise an army of undead followers. In other words, they don't have those personal special abilites like the Twilight characters do.
Physical Strengths:
Vampries, regardless of not having any super powers, do have abilities. They are extremely fast, running at speeds that can average 78 mph. They are also extremely strong, and are able to lift freight/semi trucks over their heads. Though that is the extent of it. Lifting that much weight is difficult, but possible for a vampire. Due to their strength, they use caution when handling every day objects.
Common Myths:
Vampires do have reflections. Vampires can go into sunlight. Garlic does not effect them, nor do crosses or holy water. They don't sleep in coffins nor do they need to sleep in their home soil. They can cross bodies of water. Shoving something through their non-beating hearts will not kill them. They can enter any house they want without having to be invited.
Other Facts:
Vampires do not need to breathe. However, they need to breathe in order to smell and talk, since the passing of air through the sinuses and voice box is needed to do that. (Because of this, they are also great swimmers.) They can hold perfectly still, like a statue. They have amazing senses, such as sight, hearing, and smell. Vampires, aside from normal speech can also growl, hiss, and on occasion of extreme emotion, roar... in a way. All vampires extremely beautiful, even if they weren't as a human. Their body temperature hovers at around 48 degrees F. They do not need sleep, but can. It is a good way to pass empty time. They don't scar unless the wound is touched by a vampire's venom. Vampires cannot sexually reproduce, so they can not have children. Doesn't mean they don't like sex, it is just a good useless time waster.
Smoke and Mirrors:
Stealth is of upmost priority. The humans must not know vampires exist. Everything vampires do must be in secret. If a human finds out, they will be killed. Offending Vampires may also be killed.
